Onyechere: I’m best candidate for PDP deputy spokesman

Mr Ben Onyechere, a former Special Assistant to Second Republic Vice President Alex Ekwueme, s said he is the best candidate for the office of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy National Publicity Secretary.

Onyechere said he had the requisite experience to project the PDP as a credible alternative, having held the post of National Publicity Secretary of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) between 2007 and 2010.

According to him, as a veteran journalist and political scientist, he will deliver on the job with professionalism if given the opportunity.

In a statement yesterday, he said: “I am the only one with the requisite experience and contact to resuscitate the party back to its enviable position and I am yet to learn of a better hand. In this period of rebuilding, nothing can be left to chance. Therefore, I implore my party men to give me all the support.”

Onyechere said he was qualified to be PDP’s National Publicity Secretary but for the party’s zoning arrangement which requires the Deputy National Publicity Secretary to come from the South.

He said: “I am most qualified and better positioned to become spokesperson of the party, but will contest for the Deputy National Publicity Secretary since its zoned to the South.”

Veteran journalist said PDP would have no difficulty returning to power at the centre, “if qualified hands are allowed to manage the party”.

According to him, he gained huge experience while also working with Dr Ekwueme when he ran for the Presidency, when he was PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman and when he chaired the party’s reconciliation committee.

Onyechere said he returned to the PDP with Senator Theodore Orji and the late Senator Uche Chukwumerije.
