PRECAUTION IN PREGNANCY

                        AVOID THESE THINGS DURING PREGNANCY

  • Liquor

In spite of the fact that it might appear to be innocuous to have a glass of wine at supper or a cup of lager out with companions, nobody knows what's a "protected sum" of liquor to drink during pregnancy. Fetal liquor condition (FAS) is brought about by drinking a great deal of liquor during pregnancy. What that sum is versus a protected sum is truly not known. Due to the vulnerability, being wary and not drink any liquor whatsoever during pregnancy is consistently savvy.

Liquor is effectively given to the child, whose body is less ready to dispose of liquor than the mother's. That implies an unborn child will in general foster a high centralization of liquor, which stays in the child's framework for longer periods than it would in the mother's. What's more, moderate liquor consumption, too as intermittent hard-core boozing, might perhaps harm a child's creating sensory system. In the event that you're a drunkard or figure you might tend to drink too much, converse with your PCP about it. The person in question has to know how much liquor you've consumed and when during your pregnancy to find out about how your unborn child may be impacted. Your primary care physician likewise can begin you on a way to getting the assist you with expecting to quit drinking — for the good of you and your child's.

Also, recollect that caffeine isn't just in espresso. Green and dark tea, cola, and other sodas contain caffeine. Take a stab at changing to decaffeinated items (which might in any case have some caffeine, however in a lot more modest sums) or sans caffeine choices.

Assuming you're pondering chocolate, which additionally has caffeine, fortunately you can eat some with some restraint. Some fermented espresso has 95-135 milligrams of caffeine, however the normal chocolate bar has 5-30 milligrams. In this way, limited quantities of chocolate are fine.

  • Certain Foods

Food varieties that are bound to be debased with microorganisms or weighty metals are ones to attempt to stay away from or limit your openness to. Those you ought to avoid during pregnancy include:

  1. delicate, unpasteurized cheeses (frequently promoted as "new, for example, feta, goat, Brie, Camembert, blue-veined cheeses, and Mexican queso fresco
  2. Unpasteurized milk, juices, and apple juice
  3. Crude eggs or food sources containing crude eggs, including mousse, tiramisu, crude treat mixture, eggnog, natively constructed frozen yogurt, and Caesar dressing
  4. crude or half-cooked fish (sushi), shellfish, or meats
  5. paté and meat spreads
  6. handled meats like franks and shop meats (these ought to be very much cooked prior to eating)

Likewise, in spite of the fact that fish and shellfish can be a very sound piece of your pregnancy diet (they contain valuable omega-3 unsaturated fats and are high in protein and low in immersed fat), you ought to try not to eat particular sorts because of elevated degrees of mercury, which can harm the cerebrum of a creating hatchling.

Fish to stay away from:

  1. shark
  2. swordfish
  3. lord mackerel
  4. tilefish

fish steak (restricted measures of canned, ideally light, fish is OK)

What are the dangers from my child's perspective? Despite the fact that it's critical to eat a lot of good food sources during pregnancy, you likewise need to keep away from foodborne diseases, like listeriosis, toxoplasmosis, and salmonella, which are brought about by the microbes that can be tracked down in specific food varieties. These diseases can be perilous to an unborn child and may cause birth deformities or premature delivery.

what can be done? Make certain to completely wash all leafy foods, which can convey microorganisms or be covered with pesticide buildup. Also, be aware of what you're purchasing at the supermarket or while eating out.

At the point when you pick fish, eat various fish and shellfish and cutoff the sum to around 12 ounces each week — that is around two feasts. Normal fish and shellfish that are low in mercury include: canned light fish, catfish, pollock, salmon, and shrimp. But since tuna (or white) fish has more mercury than canned light fish, it's ideal to eat something like 6 ounces (or one feast) of tuna fish seven days.

You might need to skirt a couple of food sources during pregnancy that you typically appreciate. In any case, simply think how flavorful they'll taste when you can have them once more!

  • Changing the Litter Box

Would it be advisable for me to keep away from it? Indeed. Pregnancy is the ideal opportunity to escape cleaning kitty's litter box. However, that doesn't imply that you need to avoid Fluffy!

What are the dangers from my child's perspective? A contamination called toxoplasmosis can be spread through ruined feline litter boxes and can create difficult issues in a hatchling, including rashness, unfortunate development, and extreme eye and mind harm. A pregnant lady who becomes contaminated frequently has no side effects except for can in any case give the disease to her creating child.

what can be done? Have another person change the litter box, making a point to clean it completely and consistently, then clean up well a short time later.

  • OTC and Prescription Medicines

Would it be advisable for me to keep away from them? Some, yes; others, no. There are many medications you shouldn't use during pregnancy. Make certain to converse with your PCP about which remedy and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs you can and can't take, regardless of whether they seem like no biggie.

What are the dangers from my child's point of view? Indeed, even normal OTC meds that you can purchase in stores without a solution might be forbidden during pregnancy due to their expected consequences for the child. Certain professionally prescribed drugs may likewise hurt the creating embryo. (The sort of mischief and degree of conceivable harm relies upon the sort of medicine.)

Additionally, in spite of the fact that they might appear to be innocuous, natural cures and enhancements are not controlled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). That implies that they need to keep no security guidelines and subsequently could be hurtful to your child.

what can be done? To ensure you take nothing that could seriously endanger your child, converse with your PCP about:

any meds you're taking — remedy and OTC — and ask which are protected to take during pregnancy

any worries you have about normal cures, enhancements, and nutrients

Additionally, let all of your medical care suppliers in on that you're pregnant so that they'll remember that while suggesting or endorsing any meds. Assuming you were recommended a medicine before you became pregnant for a sickness, infection, or condition that you actually have, your PCP can assist you with gauging the expected advantages and dangers of proceeding with your remedy.

In the event that you become wiped out (for instance, with a cold) or have side effects that cause you uneasiness or agony (like a cerebral pain or spinal pain), converse with your primary care physician about prescriptions you can take and alternate ways of assisting you with feeling significantly improved without drug.

Likewise, assuming you are in your third trimester, converse with your medical services proficient assuming you are planned to have a medical procedure or an operation that would require the utilization of general sedation. The FDA has given an admonition about its potential impacts on an unborn child's mental health.

  • Sporting Drugs

Would it be advisable for me to keep away from them? Indeed!

What are the dangers from my child's perspective? Pregnant ladies who use medications might be setting their unborn infants in danger for:

  1. untimely birth
  2. unfortunate development
  3. birth absconds
  4. conduct and learning issues

What's more, their children could likewise be conceived dependent on those medications.

what can be done? In the event that you've utilized any medications whenever during your pregnancy, telling your doctor is significant. Regardless of whether you've stopped, your unborn kid may as yet be in danger for medical conditions. Assuming you're actually utilizing drugs, converse with your primary care physician for assist on how with stopping. Wellbeing facilities, for example, Planned Parenthood likewise can suggest medical services suppliers, at practically zero expense, who can assist you with stopping your propensity and have a better pregnancy.

  • Smoking

Would it be a good idea for me to keep away from it? Indeed! You wouldn't light a cigarette, put it in your child's mouth, and urge your little one to puff away. As crazy as this sounds, pregnant ladies who keep on smoking are permitting their embryo to smoke as well. The smoking mother passes nicotine, carbon monoxide, and numerous different synthetic substances to her developing child.

In like manner, you ought to keep away from individuals who are smoking, whether they're associates, companions, relatives, or individuals openly puts.

What are the dangers from my child's point of view? On the off chance that a pregnant lady smokes, it could cause:

  1. unsuccessful labor or stillbirth
  2. rashness
  3. low birth weight
  4. unexpected newborn child demise condition (SIDS)
  5. asthma and other respiratory issues

What's more, the dangers to an embryo from normal openness to handed-down cigarette smoke incorporate low birth weight and eased back development.

what can be done? In the event that you smoke, having a child might be the explanation you really want to stop. Converse with your PCP about choices for overcoming the vice.

On the off chance that you invest energy with individuals who smoke, ask them pleasantly to do it outside — and away from you assuming you're outside also.

  • Fake Sweeteners (Sugar Substitutes)

Would it be advisable for me to stay away from them? Some are OK, others are ideal to keep away from.

Aspartame, sucralose, stevioside, and acesulfame-K have been viewed as protected to use with some restraint during pregnancy. Nonetheless, you ought to stay away from aspartame on the off chance that you or your accomplice has an uncommon genetic illness called phenylketonuria (PKU), in which the body can't separate the compound phenylalanine, which is tracked down in aspartame. All things considered, you ought to stay away from aspartame through and through since your child may likewise be brought into the world with the infection.

Specialists are as yet uncertain about whether saccharin, which is tracked down in certain food varieties and in the little pink parcels, is protected to use during pregnancy — it can cross the placenta and could remain in the embryo's tissue. Likewise, a sugar called cyclamate is restricted in the United States due to worries about a potential connect to disease.

What are the dangers, if any, to my child? Albeit certain individuals say that the fake sugar aspartame is connected to birth deformities and diseases, government specialists and clinical gatherings all through the world have assessed aspartame and endorsed it as safe for human utilization, including during pregnancy.

Research done during the 1970s recommended that saccharin caused bladder disease in guinea pigs when given in enormous amounts. From that point forward, however, those reviews have frequently been raised doubt about. Likewise, an admonition saying that it could cause malignant growth was taken out from all saccharin-containing items' names in 2000.

what can be done? With aspartame, sucralose, stevioside, and acesulfame-K, balance is the key. It's OK to have an intermittent eating routine pop or sans sugar food with these sugars to a great extent. Yet, in the event that you're truly wanting something sweet, it's likely better to have the genuine article, for however long it's with some restraint.

Assuming you've previously had something with saccharin in it during your pregnancy, don't fixate on it. It's exceptionally far-fetched that limited quantities could hurt your child.

In any case, it's wise to check item marks and attempt to stay away from — or possibly limit — anything with counterfeit sugars (particularly saccharin), as a sanity check. All things considered, this is one time in your life when you have a valid justification to keep away from diet food varieties! Also, the more normally seasoned entire food sources you eat during pregnancy, the better.

  • Flying

Would it be advisable for me to stay away from it? Actually no, not except if your due date is close or your primary care physician lets you know that you or your child has an ailment that warrants keep.

The following also can be avoided;

  1. Hair dyes
  2. stressfull exercise
  3. spraying chemical
  4. overheating etc

More than one in 10 young people have recently suffered a distressing sexual problem

More than 10 per cent of sexually active young people have recently experienced a “distressing problem” in the bedroom, according to a new study.

Researchers analysed information from a survey of 2,392 people aged 16 to 21, of whom 517 were sexually inactive.

They found that 44 per cent of sexually active young women and 34 per cent of sexually active young men had experienced one or more sexual problems lasting at least three months in the past year.

Nine per cent of men and 13 per cent of women said they had experienced a problem so bad that they had felt distressed as a result.

The most common ‘distressing’ complaint among sexually active women was difficulty reaching orgasm (six per cent), while five per cent said their problem was a lack of interest in sex.

Among young men, the most common problem was reaching a climax too quickly (five per cent) and difficulty getting and keeping an erection (three per cent).

Dr Kirstin Mitchell, who began the research at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and is now based at Glasgow University, said: “When it comes to young people’s sexuality, professional concern is usually focussed on preventing sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancy.

“However, we should be considering sexual health much more broadly, as sexual difficulties can impact on young people’s sexual wellbeing in the longer term.

“Our findings show that distressing sexual problems are not only experienced by older people in Britain – they are in fact relatively common in early adulthood as well.”

She said sex education and health service professionals should “provide reassurance and opportunities for young people to discuss and address these problems early on”.

“If we want to improve sexual wellbeing in the UK population, we need to reach people as they start their sex lives, otherwise a lack of knowledge, anxiety or shame might progress into lifelong sexual difficulties that can be damaging to sexual enjoyment and relationships,” Dr Mitchell said.

About a third of young people with problems had sought help, but usually from family, friends, the media or self-help sites on the internet.

Four per cent of young men and eight per cent of young women with a problem had sought professional help from a sexual health professional or other expert.

Ten per cent of those who had not had sex for a year said they had avoided it because of a previous problem they or their partner had experienced.

Professor Kaye Wellings, of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, who took part in the research, said sex education in the UK was “often silent on issues of sexual satisfaction”.

“But these are clearly important to young people and should be addressed,” she said.

“Sex education could do much more to debunk myths about sex, discuss pleasure and promote gender equality in relationships.

“Teaching young people the importance of communication and respect within relationships is also key to helping them understand and address problems that may occur in their sex lives.”

Students turning to sex work to cope with rising tuition fees and living costs

Students in the UK are being driven to work in the sex industry in order to cope with the rising cost of living and university tuition fees.

More than half of those already in the industry - 67 per cent - have turned to sex work to be able to pay for living expenses, such as food and bills, followed by 53 per cent who need the money to pay for rent.

Another 35 per cent say their earnings are used to pay for university fees, while around a quarter use money earned to reduce post-graduation debt, or to avoid getting into debt.

The startling findings have come from the National Union of Students (NUS) which worked with the Sex Workers Open University and the English Collective of Prostitutes to survey young people working in the industry to shed more light on their lives and experiences.

The majority of respondents surveyed were aged between 20 to 25, and also mainly LGBT+, something NUS said provides a valuable insight into the experiences of those workers who do not define as straight.

More women think shaving pubic hair is 'hygenic' despite greater health risks

Most women now believe they are not "clean" unless they are shaven, while actually they are more likely to develop hygiene issues

The research has shown increasing numbers of women shave their pubic hair because they believe it is "more hygenic", despite medical advice to the contrary.

Previous studies suggested women felt compelled to remove their pubic hair for the purposes of sexual activity, new research indicates many think the failure to do so creates a health risk.

But the scientific evidence is exactly the opposite, medics have warned.

Dr Vanessa Mackay, who is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, said pubic hair was vital for preventing pathogens entering the vagina.

"Pubic hair offers a natural barrier to keep things clean, to decrease contact with viruses and bacteria, and to protect the tender skin of the area," she told The Independent.

"While protecting against diseases and skin problems, pubic hair prevents foreign particles like dust and pathogenic bacteria from entering the body.

Censoring art as 'pornographic' because it shows pubic hair is ridiculous
Debate: Is pubic hair a feminist issue?
"Pubic hair also helps to control the moisture of the area which decreases the chances of yeast infections."

The new study, published the journal JAMA Dermatology, suggests a majority of women of all ages "groom" their pubic hair to some degree.

Sixty-two per cent of US women surveyed said they chose to completely remove their hair, while 84 per cent reported some kind of grooming or trimming.

And younger, white women with a college education were the most likely to shave or wax, with the highest percentage aged between 18 and 34.

Pubic hair also acts as a soft cushion for the sensitive skin of the labia and vagina, experts have said.

Underwear which fails to protect the area, such as thongs and even pants that merely thread a string between the legs, cause particular pain and abrasions for women's genital parts.

Other complications include vaginal and vulvar infections, inflammation of the hair follicles, abscesses, lacerations and allergic reactions.

Dr Mackay said that tiny "wounds" left by shaving, along with the warm and moist genital area, created a "happy culture medium" for bacteria to grow in.

"If you shave your pubic hair, you are putting yourself at a higher risk of contracting genital warts," she added.

"Although pubic hair doesn’t completely prevent it, it helps avoid skin on skin contact with someone who may already have it.

"Removing pubic hair also irritates and inflames the hair follicles left behind, leaving microscopic open wounds."

Critics have pointed out that women in pornography footage are often shown completely shaven.

Male pornography performers are also usually clean shaven, and a recent Gillette survey suggested that some 20 per cent of men "groom" their genital area.

This is not close to the 80 per cent of women, even though more than 90 per cent of women said they preferred a man who was "clean and tidy" down there, according to the Gilette survey.

'Couple Reveal' Couples who share housework together fairly have more sex, research finds

The couple research study found couples who share chores equally have sex more often than those who didn't

Couples who share household chores fairly have more sex than those who stick to sexist stereotypes; new research found.

The paper, which is due to be published in a forthcoming edition of the Journal of Marriage and Family, made the discovery after analysing data on a nation-wide 2006 US study of marital satisfaction.

It found that different gender couples who reported sharing housework equally had sex 6.8 times per month on average, compared to around 5 times per month for households in which one partner did the bulk of routine housework. In households with unequal distribution of chores, the person tasked with the most work was almost always female rather than male.

The researchers defined “routine housework” as: preparing and cooking meals, washing dishes, cleaning around the house, shopping for groceries and doing laundry. They found that how frequently couples have sex also increases not only if housework overall is divided fairly, but if the individual chores are not divided by gender stereotypes; such as cooking and cleaning for women and DIY chores for men.

This Another striking finding of the study was that despite recent strides in gender equality, women still do the majority of housework in most US households. In 63 per cent of homes, the majority is undertaken by women. This was found to be the case even when women work longer hours and earn more than men.

The paper author Professor Sharon Sassler from Cornell University said of the findings: “Contemporary couples who adhere to a more egalitarian division of labor are the only couples who have experienced an increase in sexual frequency compared to their counterparts of the past.

Other groups – including those where the woman does the bulk of the housework – have experienced declines in sexual frequency. This finding is particularly notable given reports indicating that sexual frequency has generally declined worldwide over the past few decades.

This commenting on the study, historian Stephanie Coontz said it reflects how heterosexual couples now experience “more equalized power between men and women”. She said: “Love used to be seen as the attraction of opposites, and each partner in a marriage specialized in a unique set of skills, resources, and emotions that, it was believed, the other gender lacked.

Today, love is based on shared interests, activities, and emotions. Where difference was once the basis of desire, equality is increasingly becoming erotic.

The study also found that women are more likely to do most of the housework in heterosexual couples than their male partners! even when they work longer hours and earn more for the Family.

Try this today and see if it is true or not!!!

Scientists say men with one intriguing characteristic 'are more attractive to women'

Take a look at a bunch of women's OkCupid profiles and you'll be hard pressed to find one that says, “I'm looking for a guy who makes me laugh, loves trying new foods, and — oh! knows how to spin a mean yarn.”

And yet new research suggests that storytelling prowess is a desirable quality in a guy — possibly because it signals that they're high-status. Men, on the other hand, don't seem to be fazed by women's ability to tell a good tale.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and SUNY Buffalo came to these conclusions after conducting a series of studies with hundreds of male and female undergrads as participants.

In one study, undergrads read descriptions of men and women, some of which specified that the man or woman tells great stories. Results showed that women found men who were good storytellers more attractive as long-term partners than men who were only decent storytellers, or men whose bios didn't mention storytelling ability at all.

Men, on the other hand, didn't rate women more attractive when those women were described as good storytellers.

The researchers also asked the participants to indicate whether they thought the man or woman would be popular, admired, and a good leader. Answers to these questions indicated how high-status the person seemed.

Sure enough, men who were supposedly good storytellers were perceived by women as higher status. Again, though, women who were supposedly good storytellers were not perceived by men as more attractive or of higher status.

At this point, it's hard to say for sure why women are drawn to men who can tell a good story. The authors suggest that “storytelling ability reflects a man's ability to gain resources. Good storytellers may be more likely to influence others or to gain positions of authority in society.”

Previous research has found that women prefer high-status guys, so this isn't especially surprising — what's new is the idea that storytelling ability is an indicator of status.

Of course, future research is necessary to see if watching and listening to a man tell a story is as appealing as reading a story he's written.

Yet this study adds to a growing body of research on the nonphysical characteristics that can make men attractive to women, like mindfulness and altruism. In some cases, these attributes seem to be even more important than a man's looks.

Bottom line: Women might not explicitly reveal that they're looking for a guy who can tell a good story — in fact, they might not even realize that's what they want. But if you want to impress a woman, consider ditching the pickup lines and starting with “Once upon a time ...” instead.

How Facebook Could Be Threatening Your Romantic Relationship

Deciding whether technology is “good” or “bad” can be like trying to decide the same thing about food. That is, it’s pretty obvious that it’s good in some ways and bad in others. But we need to be mindful of both as we tumble deeper into a digital age.

Some argue that technology has an immensely positive influence on our closest relationships. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg claims that “when people are connected, we can just do some great things. We have the opportunity to bring the people we care about closer to us. It really makes a big difference.”

This is true. But we shouldn’t be too quick to generalise. Technology can also have a toxic effect on intimate relationships, one of which is Facebook’s own potential to exacerbate romantic insecurity.

The key features of insecurity are mistrust in a partner’s loyalty and fidelity; a deep rooted fear that they will abandon us, and a hyper-vigilance or awareness of potential threats to the relationship. It’s our psychological response to the fact that, on some level, life’s cruellest paradox is that those we love the most could (and often do) hurt us most deeply.

Insecurity can be a pervasive and enduring trait in some people but it can also vary in response to triggers (real or imagined) that heighten it. It has been well established as a driving force behind relationship conflict and disharmony because people are compelled to cope with it by seeking unreasonable levels of certainty, exerting excessive control, and punishing significant others for perceived wrongdoings.

It would be simplistic to suggest that technologies such as Facebook cause romantic insecurity. People were insecure long before social media came along. But it is important to explore how insecurity is intensified or shaped by a social media platform that facilitates an unprecedented degree of fusion between partners’ social networks.

Facebook - which started life comparing the appearance of Harvard students - gives couples access to multiple features of their partner’s social life. This includes a visible list of “friends” (raising questions such as “Why is he friends with her?“, "Why is she still in touch with her ex?”); documented public interactions with such “friends,” and pictures, comments, likes, and posts, each of which can be all too easily surveyed and scrutinised. This can serve as excellent fodder for the insecure mind that is hyper-vigilant to potential relationship threats.

A recent anthropological study revealed that some young people are indeed finding that Facebook permits a level of access to partners’ social interactions that fans the flames of romantic insecurity to uncomfortable levels.

One participant told of her reaction to seeing that her boyfriend had written a message in Italian to a girl on Facebook. Suspicious that she was being cheated on, she used translation software to understand the words, spent two hours “Facebook stalking” the mystery girl to find out what she looked like and who her friends were, and then eventually realised that, in fact, her “rival” had a boyfriend of her own. At this point, the suspicious girlfriend decided to stop using Facebook.

The same study highlighted that young people felt confused and conflicted about whether they were actually insecure people in the first place, or whether Facebook had played a major role in generating their insecurity.

Insecurity settings

Many suggested that insecurities frequently arose over issues they simply would not (and should not) have known about, had they not had a platform for such pervasive scrutiny and surveillance of their partner’s social lives.

One contributor commented: “I couldn’t decide whether it was the fact that I checked Facebook that triggered my not trusting him, or I already didn’t trust him, and Facebook just perpetuated it."

Larger studies have supported the idea that Facebook seems to bring out the green eyed monster, arguing that it exposes people to ambiguous information about their partner to which that they wouldn’t otherwise have had access.

One of the fundamental ways that technology has changed society is by facilitating our surveillance of one another. It has been argued that we are now firmly living in an age of surveillance. But there must be a line, beyond which we pay a price for such a high degree of surveillance, such as human rights infringements and excessive invasion of privacy.

Facebook delivers a language of surveillance into the realms of young people’s relationships, changing how people relate. Some are finding that there is a line to be drawn here too, and that the psychological cost of excessive access to romantic surveillance includes a thriving sense of insecurity.

"Ladies in the mood"

Wot ar you waiting for go get it  now ladies in the mood

My Polish fiancee was afraid to introduce me to her parents Says By Bamgbopa

Versatile Nigerian para-athlete Abayomi Bamgbopa has made a name for himself playing amputee football in Poland.

He talks about his experiences in Europe and the state of Nigeria’s special sports athletes in this chat with ’TANA AIYEJINA How is the season so far in Poland? The season just started last month and we are going to finish by November.

My club, Lamport of Warszawa, are leading the EKSTRAKLASA League right now and I’ve played a lot of games.

How has life been with you since you moved to Poland from France two years ago?
I arrived Poland on December 20, 2014 and I was named the second best player in Poland last year. Poland is a very good country and the Polish have a lot of respect for Nigeria.

I have lots of male and female Polish friends; they are all very nice. I even have a Polish fiancée and her parents are very nice to me.

I’m the first Nigerian and African to play amputee football in Poland and the first Nigerian to play amputee football in Europe.

You were in France before going to Poland. How was your time there?
I lived in France for two years before I moved to Poland. There’s no country in Europe that is easy because it’s not your country.

But as a sportsman, it was relatively easy for me. Did you also play amputee football in France? In France, I was a member of the Athletes Club and I was involved in shot put and discus. I was the best in my class there.

I had to pay to participate in some tournaments then and I posted some good performances. I was the best shot put thrower in Rouen from 2013 to 2014.

Have you been a victim of racism because of your disability and skin colour?

I haven’t had any personal experiences but a lot of old people in Poland are racists; even in France too.

But a lot of young white people have been fighting against racism in Poland. Initially my girlfriend was afraid to introduce me to her parents because I’m black but after her parents met me, they liked and

loved me and took me as part of their family. Generally, racism is everywhere in the world, not only in Europe.

How did you become a sportsman?
I started getting involved in sports in Abeokuta, Ogun State, in 1998. It was not easy being a sportsman initially but I had to keep going because of my love for sports. I actually started my sports career as a powerlifter.

I represented Ogun, Ondo and Rivers states at the National Sports Festival before I travelled to

Europe.

I won silver for Ondo and Rivers at the 2004 and 2012 NSF respectively. Then I played for Nigeria’s amputee national team in the Africa Cup of Nations in Liberia in 2008 and in Ghana in 2010.

Has Poland approached you to play for their national team?

Yes, Poland officials want me to play for their national team but I still prefer to play for Nigeria ahead of any other country. I’m very proud of my country.

What are the challenges faced by special sports athletes in Nigeria?

There are so many of them. For instance, if you are an athlete with a disability, then you have to wait for the National Sports Festival to compete. We are only active during the festival or major international events and that is not good enough. But the normal athletes have lots of games and events to compete in.

If you get to under the bridge in front of the National Stadium, Lagos, you will see all kinds of people with disabilities working but nobody wants to help them. And these are the same people who represent Nigeria at international competitions. No one, not even government has helped them. They are only surviving through the grace of God.

How were you then able to succeed and become a star footballer in Europe?

Honestly, I still don’t know. It’s the Almighty God at work in my life. That is why no matter what you are doing, and in whatever situation you find yourself, you must be prayerful.

What’s your advice to young special sports athletes?
They need to be focused, train very well because no pain, no gain. They also need to be prayerful, disciplined and respect their coaches.

Who inspired you to become who you are today?

It’s my uncle, Bola Bakare, who is now based in the US. He is the one who first told me about special sports. He encouraged me and gave me a lot of advice.

How supportive has your Polish girlfriend been?

My girlfriend is very good and nice. She travels with me to all my tournaments. She’s a great woman.

If you have one million dollars today, how will you use it?
I really have the plan to help, especially people with disabilities like me. I want most of them to travel to Europe and further their careers. There is respect for people with disabilities in European countries unlike what you have in Nigeria.

How do Nigerians treat people with disabilities?

Let’s take a look at the Super Eagles and the Special Eagles, who are the amputee national team. These two teams represent the same country but just because the Special Eagles are made up of players with disabilities, the government doesn’t help us.

But the amputee teams in European countries are sponsored by government; Germany, Spain, Poland, Holland, France and most of the other countries. Polish footballers Kuba Rzeźniczak and

Robert Lewandowski have supported Polish amputee football immensely too.

Did you have any encounter in Nigeria, when people lookeddown on you because of your disability?

Nobody can look down on me because I don’t look at myself as someone with any form of disability. I do so many things that others do.

I studied Fine Art at The Polytechnic, Ibadan. I’m an artist, I used to sing in church and I can sing juju music and hip hop as well.

Then why are some people with disabilities begging on the streets?

Some of these people are begging because they don’t believe in themselves. A lot of them are struggling under the bridge in front of the stadium in Surulere. I can just pray for them. I know of coaches who have given these people advice on using sports to combat poverty. I’m not a lazy person, I compete in several sports: powerlifting, shot put, discus, javelin and amputee football. I struggle as a man.

You say your Polish girlfriend has been very nice. Do Nigerian girls love to date guys with disabilities?

Yes of course, but not all of them. About 35 per cent of them don’t bother about your disability. That is why we have to work hard no matter the disability because our government doesn’t have any good plan for us. Come to Poland and see how people with disabilities live.

They live better lives. Most of them buy their apartments and even drive very good cars. They have good jobs but government still pays them some money because of their disabilities.

Their wives are normal people. I have a friend here who just completed his house but how many people with disabilities in Nigeria can buy an apartment or a car? So, the Nigerian government needs to help.

While growing up, how did the Nigerian society look at you asa kid with disability?

As a talented sports guy, I had so many good people close to me in my area and church. I don’t think people looked at my disability.

How do you think government can take care of people with disabilities?
We have a lot of educated people with disabilities and government can employ them. They are capable of doing that for us. Then government needs to look at sports too.

Can you believe that the Special Eagles have never played at the amputee football World Cup? It is because there is nobody to sponsor the team. And people are telling me in Europe that they would like to play against the Nigerian amputee team because of the way I play. I sacrificed a lot and trained very hard every day to become who I am today and I give thanks to God.

Corporate organisations should help too. They help a lot of musicians, comedians and sportsmen and women; they can endorse us too.

But government needs to pay attention to people with disabilities; we are Nigerians too.
