Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has said his earlier order removing Okezie Ikpeazu as governor of Abia state still stands, until Thursday when he would hear further applications on the matter.
Abang had last week declared Ikpeazu unfit to be governor on account of false tax declarations prior to his nomination as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.
The verdict from the high court came on the petition of Abia State PDP governorship aspirant and first runner-up in the primary, Sampson Uche Ogah, challenging Ikpeazu’s eligibility because he filed false tax clearance certificates in the run-up to the PDP primary.
Shortly after the verdict, Ikpeazu filed an appeal against the ruling, as well as an application, through his lawyer, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), asking the court to vacate the order.
Going by the order of the court, the Independent National Electoral Commission issued Ogah a certificate of return as governor of Abia State.
