The three members of a gang which shot and robbed a motorist of unspecified sum of money in the Amukoko area of Lagos State on Thursday are now in the Police net, according to an official.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that pandemonium broke out at about 9am on Thursday at Amukoko on the Orile-Mile 2 Expressway when the gunmen attacked the motorist.
An eyewitness told NAN that the gunmen, operating on six motorcycles, blocked the victim’s Toyota Sienna at the Lafia Bus Stop axis of the expressway and dispossessed him of his money after shooting him on the leg.
Many motorists abandoned their vehicles and scampered for safety just as passersby who equally took to their heels as the gunmen shot sporadically before escaping on motorcycles into Amukoko area, the eyewitness said.
They confirming the arrest of the suspects, SP Dolapo Badmos, the police spokesperson in Lagos State, told NAN on Friday that they were apprehended by policemen attached to a bank while trying to escape through Ajegunle.
The Badmos said the gunmen were spotted by the policemen, who gave them a hot chase while they opened fire on the police.
She Also said: “During a cross-firing, one of them was shot on the leg, a stray bullet from the robbers also hit a roadside mechanic and three of the robbers were later arrested.
“Arms and ammunition were recovered from them as well as a motorcycle.
“The case has been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.”
