The Kaduna chapter of the All Progressives Congress has warned members of the splinter group called APC-AKIDA to desist from any form of anti-party activities or risk sanction.
The party insisted that there was no faction in the Kaduna APC just as it commended the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, for implementing the change agenda of the party in the state.
The Acting Publicity Secretary of the party, Salisu Tanko-Wusono, at a press conference to evaluate the governor’s one year in office, argued that the people of the state elected the party for change and “not to pander on the ego of people.”
A splinter group called the APC-AKIDA led by the likes of Senator Shehu Sani, the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District; Isah Hashiru, a former APC governorship aspirant in the last election; and Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former Secretary, Independent National Electoral Commission, had on Thursday emerged from the APC in the state.
Though the convener of the group, Tom Maiyashi, said the party had no faction, the APC-AKIDA had its own Executive and Advisory Councils with prominent politicians featuring in them. But Wusono said those who believe that it is only when they lead or are treated as masters that there can be success should reconsider their conducts.
He warned that the party in the state could not be factionalised, pointing out that the authentic executive committee of the APC would not tolerate indiscipline from members.
Also, he warned that anyone who violates the constitution of the party would be sanctioned.
He said, “We will not tolerate indiscipline. We have given people enough time to adjust to the reality that they are not in a position to hold the party or the process of change to ransom just because of their personal interests.
“Some people lost their bid to occupy the office of chairman; others were roundly defeated in the governorship primaries. Despite this, the party tried to carry them along.”
He noted that during the electioneering, some of the members of the APC-AKIDA went as far as conniving with the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party to sabotage their own party.
Wusono added, We heard that a group of persons sat with a suspended senator and announced an illegal and unrecognised group.
They are warned to hereby desist.
Similarly, while contributing during the question and answer session, Yahaya Baba-Pate, the State’s Acting Secretary of the APC, said there was only one APC in the state.
“As regard the so-called APC-AKIDA, there is only one APC. As far as we are concerned and as far as the constitution of the party is concerned, nothing of such exists,” he said.
He recalled that after the 2015 elections, members of the APC-AKIDA, rather than support the El-Rufai-led administration in the state, “they decided to form an opposition” to bring down the government.
“They only seek to bring down the government for their own selfish interests without the interest of the people at their hearts,” he added.
