The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has expressed support for Federal Government’s policy on total removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) popularly known as petrol, stressing that the measure will lead to products availability and affordability in all states of the federation.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government has last week announced it plans to stop subsidizing the petrol with palliative measures which some have strongly condemned.
In a strong worded letter from the office of the National Secretary General, of RTEAN, to the Minister of Transport, Honourable Rotimi Amechi, made available to our reporter yesterday, Comrade Yusuf Ibrahim Adeniyi, on behalf of his organization said: “ following the recent increase in the pump price of petrol and its attendants uproar by the masses, the Road Transport Employers of Nigeria(RTEAN) as a major stake holder in the road transport industry feel most obliged to make its position known on the issue as raised above and over emphatically thus”.
“ That we disassociate our self from the proposed strike by the Labour and others in Nigeria”.
According to the statement, RTEAN will continue to support the removal of the fuel subsidy which tends to curtail excess of fraudulent few individuals and put things in the right perspectives adding that the organization in its little way will continue as a major stake holder in the transport sector as well as do everything possible to ensuring that the government succeeds in its bid to reposition Nigeria on the right footings and pedestal.
RTEAN further commends the government for her total fight against corruption reiterating her unflinching support to President Mohammed Buhari led- government which RTEAN believes has been producing positive vibrations since assumption of office in May last year.
